Leeds United fans are not unused to being hit by bad news just when everything in their garden appeared rosy. It has been a way of life for the followers of the club ever since the money ran out in the early 2000s to herald the fall from which they have still not yet recovered. Nevertheless, Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay’s Thursday night bombshell that Samuel Saiz has told the club he wants to quit in the January window has rocked fans. The Spaniard is said to be unsettled and unhappy at Elland Road and is looking to engineer a return to Spain, with a transfer to La Liga club Getafe on the cards. Talk about bolt out of the blue. Saiz has only started one of Leeds’ last seven league matches after starting the season on fire, when he was at the hub of Marcelo Bielsa’s thrilling new-look team. He has been a firm fans’ favourite over the last 18 months and supporters are upset at his potentially imminent exit.

None of us know really what he is going through and it can’t be easy if his wife isn’t settled. It will be a real shame as he is a great talent. However the biggest thing is we do what Bielsa wants. We keep him happy at all costs!!
