With just three assists in 17 appearances this season it is fair to say that Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah has not enjoyed his most fruitful of campaigns to date and with his contract expiring next summer, fans would want to see much more before handing him a new deal.

With 100 Villa outings under his belt he is one of the more experienced heads among the current squad and has constantly proven himself to be a reliable performer – stealing the limelight on his day – before his struggles this year.

At 30-years-old he should be at his peak but instead seems to have lost that touch of magic he has shown on occasion and there may well be some around Villa Park who feel they could do better than the Ghana international.

However, the Birmingham Mail report that while his current deal does expire this coming summer there is an option for the club to extend it by another 12 months – something which is a no-brainer for the club to trigger.

Yes, he has not been at his best but to lose a player of his calibre and experience for nothing makes no sense whatsoever and manager Dean Smith will be hoping he can find his form once again.

With over 350 appearances in the Championship there will be plenty of suitors for him and that year-long extension can see the Villans ramp up his asking price, rather than seeking a desperate sale in Janaury to avoid losing him on a free in the summer.

It also takes the stress of his future off the player’s mind and will allow him to play more confidently and without worry – so triggering that deal is an absolute must.
