Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has congratulated West Brom star Jay Rodriguez for his controversial last-minute equaliser against Aston Villa in a 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns on Friday night.

Rodriguez bundled the ball over the line after it hit his arm, but the referee and linesman both failed to spot it and awarded a goal for the Baggies despite major protests by the Villa players.

That didn’t bother former West Brom and Birmingham goalkeeper Foster though, as he took to his personal Twitter account to send a cheeky message to Rodriguez.

“Get in Jay Rodriguez,” he said, with a few hand emojis added at the end.

OPINION

Foster may have left West Brom fans fuming when he quit The Hawthorns in the summer, but it’s pretty clear that deep down he is still a Baggie and loves it when Darren Moore’s side picks up good results. Villa fans are fuming after that 2-2 draw. It was a pretty even match on the whole, however Villa’s Tammy Abraham should have put the game out of sight when he missed an open goal when they were 2-1 up. Chris Brunt’s introduction made the difference for West Brom in the end when he came on to replace Jake Livermore. His defensive splitting pass was perfectly weighted to Matt Phillips, whose cross into the box was put into the back of the net by Rodriguez after Orjan Nyland flapped at the ball. If Villa fans want to be angry at anyone it should be Abraham, Nyland and the linesman. Abraham should have scored, Nyland should have coped with the cross better and the linesman should have seen the blatant contact between the ball and Rodriguez’s arm.
