OPINION
It’s not hard to see why Orjan Nyland has Aston Villa fans hiding behind their sofas whenever they watch their team play because he is someone who is prone to the odd error and has a knack for gifting the opposition goals. Even though Villa won 3-0 against Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Saturday, the Norway international still managed to have some fans fuming with his display – however those supporters may have spoken too soon. Nyland pulled off a great save near the end of the game to earn Villa a clean sheet. Shutting out the opposition was bound to be a top priority for Dean Smith this weekend after the 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night, and Nyland helped achieve that. Yes, the goalkeeping mainstay did look nervy at times but he didn’t concede and that is a massive bonus for him. West Brom will be a tough task for him next Friday because of their firepower up front. Villa fans need to pray that their negative reaction to his display on Twitter doesn’t get into his head.

Nyland scares me. Even if it’s simple like catching the bloody ball #avfc

Nyland is the worst keeper I’ve ever seen at this level at handling crosses. What is the matter with him!? Doesn’t come often enough, and makes me nervous every time he does come for anything. #AVFC
