Anichebe: Roofe is on fire

|

Former Everton striker Victor Anichebe has heaped praise on Kemar Roofe after the Leeds United star scored a last-gasp winner in the 3-2 victory over Blackburn on Wednesday afternoon.

Leeds were 2-1 down going into stoppage time, but two goals by Roofe in the 91st and 94th minute were enough to send Elland Road into meltdown as the Yorkshire giants extended their lead at the top of the Championship table.

Anichebe was one of Roofe’s team-mates during their days at West Brom and the Nigerian powerhouse has taken to Instagram to wax lyrical about the 25-year-old for his form.

“You on serious [fire],” said Anichebe, in the comment section on one of Roofe’s posts.

“Thought y’all lost then turned it back on and saw a double I was like WTF!

“You flying bro! Promotion now!”

OPINION

Roofe is on absolute fire at the moment and the 25-year-old looks as though he could be the main man in the club’s bid for promotion to the Premier League this season. The former Baggies attacker had been very inconsistent for Leeds before Marcelo Bielsa arrived at Elland Road, with him now one of the first names on the teamsheet and one of the early contenders for Championship player of the year. After his brace on Boxing Day, Roofe now has 13 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this term, which is just one short of his goalscoring tally for the whole of last season. It is important that Roofe keeps on getting the goals, especially with Tyler Roberts and Patrick Bamford currently injury. They are expected to be back in action soon but Roofe cannot let up on this goalscoring streak, otherwise it could seriously harm Leeds’ chances of promotion. There’s a lot of pressure on the Walsall-born forward, but he can handle it.
