AEK Athens have offered centre-back Vasilis Lampropoulos to Rangers ahead of the January transfer window, according to SDNA.

The Greek news outlet claims that Lampropoulos, 28, is looking to quit AEK in the near future but he is yet to be offered a move by another club.

It is understood that the Gers have been handed the chance to sign the 6ft 1 (transfermarkt) Greece international next month, but the situation is said to be on-going.

Good move for Rangers?

Lampropoulos is a defender with a lot of top-flight experience, playing in a league that is at a similar level to the Scottish Premiership in terms of the amount of competition.

The 28-year-old has also had a taste of Champions League football this season in his three appearances for AEK Athens in a challenging group containing Bayern Munich, Benfica and Ajax.

If Steven Gerrard wants another centre-back in January then he should give good thought so signing Lampropoulos, but he already has Joe Worrall, Gareth McAuley, Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic in that position, so the money is better off being spent on other areas of the squad.

Likely to happen?

Unless Rangers lose one of their current four centre-backs, this move is unlikely to take place.

Lampropoulos seems like a decent defender and he could be at the level that the Light Blues want, but Gerrard is bound to prioritise other areas of the squad in January, if he is allowed to spend.
