Former Celtic striker Scott McDonald has drooled over James Forrest’s second goal for Scotland in their 4-0 rout of Albania on Saturday night.

The Scots ran riot in this UEFA Nations League encounter thanks to a brace from Forrest as well as goals from Ryan Fraser and Steven Fletcher – and one more win ensures them of a spot in the next round of the competition.

Following the Hoops’ magician’s second goal, McDonald delivered his verdict via his personal Twitter account, simply labelling it as “world class” while comparing the strike to that of Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

He said: “That 4th goal from James Forrest was world class. Messi scores that we are drooling over it!”

OPINION

It must be a huge compliment for Forrest for one of his goals to be compared to the greatness that is Lionel Messi – but McDonald is absolutely spot on to make the comparison. Forrest’s goal was “world class” like he pointed out, and it just demonstrates the strides he has been making for Celtic in recent times. He has been fantastic for club as he has been for country, and Hoops fans will no doubt be hoping that he can bring these types of goals to their league matches. If he can, Celtic will be laughing all the way to the league title at the end of the season. Brendan Rodgers is incredibly lucky to have such a player on his hands, and he must keep him from the grasp of other clubs who will undoubtedly be interested in his services during January. If he keeps this up, then we will most likely be seeing Scotland at the 2020 European Championships.
