Aston Villa Under-23s fell to an agonising 5-4 loss against Reading on Sunday afternoon, and many fans have taken to Twitter to react to James Bree’s display.

The young right-back scored twice with headers for Villa in an incredible back-and-forth match which saw the lead change three times as Reading secured the win late on.

Villa fans on Twitter have been reacting to the match, with many singling out 21-year-old Bree for his impressive display and urging Dean Smith to give him a run in the first-team.

COMMENTARY

These Villa fans were obviously left impressed by Bree’s two-goal display against Reading, and it is easy to see why. The 21-year-old was a level above anyone else on the pitch on Sunday, and is clearly ready for that step up to the first-team soon. Since his arrival from Barnsley in January 2017, Bree has made 22 appearances for the Villans, with most of those coming from the bench under Steve Bruce. Bree is yet to be handed a chance under new boss Smith, but that will surely come if he continues to put in performances like this. First-choice right-back Alan Hutton is getting on, and has shown weaknesses on several occasions already this season. The extra pace and athleticism that Bree brings will surely be of interest to Smith, who likes to play expansive, attacking football. It is not clear when Smith will listen to these calls for a first-team place, but with displays like this it will no doubt be very soon.
