Forgotten Celtic midfielder Scott Allan could seal a move away from Parkhead in the January transfer window but his lack of playing time is a stumbling block to him seeing a deal completed, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that the 26-year-old has been in freefall down the pecking order at the Hoops, with the likes of Ryan Christie now “miles ahead” of the out of favour man, and with a contract that expires in the summer he will know his days at Celtic Park are numbered.

Allan has managed just three unused substitute appearances this season for the Bhoys with just 17 outings for the club since his move back in 2015.

Opinion

This might be one of the rare situations where Celtic are more concerned about a player staying at the club than leaving in a transfer window. With no future at Parkhead the club would like to see him off the wage books sooner rather than later in order to save money which could be invested elsewhere, but Brendan Rodgers’ choice not to give him any game time this season seems to be a problem for suitors eyeing up a potential deal. It is understandable where there are doubts, for he will not be at the same match fitness as someone playing on a regular basis, and it will take time to get him to the required level after January. With a contract expiring in the summer, a bargain deal could be on the cards and Allan himself would love to get away and reignite his stunted career with such little playing time while with the Hoops.
