West Ham have tabled an offer to sign Inter Milan forward Gabriel Barbosa ahead of the Brazil international’s return from his loan spell at Santos in January, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Italian news outlet claims that Barbosa, 22, will return to the San Siro once the transfer window re-opens on January 1 and Inter will then make a decision on his future at the club.

Calcio Mercato reported earlier this month that Inter would want at least £17.4million for the striker, who has made just 10 appearances and scored one goal across all competitions in Europe since he joined the Italian giants in August 2016.

Good move for West Ham?

Manuel Pellegrini has already added plenty of South American flair to his squad, but he must avoid Barbosa at all costs because there is no way that the Brazilian is anywhere near good enough for the Premier League.

Inter Milan sent him out on loan to Santos for a reason and that was because he had been a huge flop in Serie A as he failed to make a single league start for the club in 2016/17.

The Hammers are better off signing someone else if they want a new forward, or even promoting someone from the youth team because Barbosa would be a huge waste of cash.

Likely to happen?

West Ham are going to be linked with a lot of South America players thanks to Pellegrini and how he signed the likes of Felipe Anderson and Fabian Balbuena in the summer, but a lot of those who are linked are not going to be signed.

Barbosa is probably going to end up going somewhere a lot more obscure than Inter, and definitely not the Premier League.
