While injuries are part and parcel of football West Ham fans must be wondering what they have done to deserve so many harsh blows in the first half of the season.

The problems started back in the summer when Manuel Lanzini was ruled out for much of the season with a serious problem on international duty, with Andy Carroll, Winston Reid, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and most recently, as stated by the London Evening Standard, Ryan Fredericks joining the Argentine on the sidelines long term.

While all the injuries have left Manuel Pellegrini’s side depleted, it is perhaps the right back’s setback which is the biggest concern, with no real experienced options behind first choice Pablo Zabaleta now.

With January around the corner it is evident new recruits will be high priority for the Chilean boss and he should look no further than 27-year-old England international Nathaniel Clyne who, according to Wales Online, has been given the green light to leave Anfield.

It is understandable why the Reds are open to letting him leave with both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez having taken the first team places for the foreseeable future, but there is no doubting he is a quality talent on his day.

A full back with a strong defensive sense but also the ability to bomb down the wing and cause havoc at the other end of the pitch, Clyne would be an upgrade on Zabaleta and with the Argentine heading to the end of his career, West Ham need to be thinking long-term with their next right back signing.

His 14 caps for England demonstrate he is worthy of gracing east London with his abilities and not only would a move end the Hammers’ woes, it would bring them plenty of enjoyment on a weekly basis.
