One of the biggest talking points at Aston Villa over the summer – aside from the financial issues which threatened the future of the club – involved a potential move for star midfielder Jack Grealish to Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur.

Obviously nothing came off in the end and the maestro ended up penning a new long-term contract at the club keeping him tied down until 2023 – but it could be another contract deal down in London which could determine his future at Villa Park.

The Express claim that Spurs are trying to tie star man Christian Eriksen down to a new £150,000-a-week – or £7.8million-a-year – deal but that failing to do so, with just 18 months left on his current terms, could see him depart for a new club, with Euro giants PSG and Real Madrid both touted as suitors.

The report goes on to state that if Eriksen does leave north London then Mauricio Pochettino’s men could turn back to Grealish and prise him away from Villa – something that the midlands outfit will be reluctant to see happen.

He might not have been in the greatest of form this season but there is no doubting that the 23-year-old has the ability to take Villa to the next level, hence why Tottenham are keen on his capture, and keeping him on board would be a huge boost to their hopes of success in the future.

If Eriksen pens that deal it would seem as though a move to Spurs would be off the table for Grealish – so the Villans will be praying that Pochettino can get the contract signed as soon as possible.
