Kieran Trippier has withdrawn from the England squad following the injury he picked up in the game against Crystal Palace.

Evening Standard journalist James Olley reported that the FA had confirmed the news on Tuesday.

He had hooked up with the squad but will now return to Spurs for rehabilitation.

OPINION
This is not entirely unexpected after Trippier picked up an injury against Crystal Palace. However, there must be a concern that the injury could be worse than first thought after a scan ruled out a serious problem. Following that he hooked up with the England squad, only to return for rehabilitation. Tottenham are really suffering from injuries at the moment with Danny Rose and Eric Dier, plus long-term absentees Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele. Harry Kane is probably the only Tottenham player who featured heavily at the World Cup not to succumb to injury so far this season, but he’s not been at 100%. An injury to him would be catastrophic for the team – it’s a part of the team they literally have no cover for. Serge Aurier can slot in for Tripper at right-back but there’s a feeling that the squad is down to the bare bones at the moment and January is still a way away.
