A section of Tottenham fans on Twitter are absolutely seething after it was reported that Christian Eriksen is unlikely to sign a new deal with the club in the short term.
According to a report by the Times on Thursday afternoon, the 26-year-old playmaker is in a contract stand-off with Spurs and Daniel Levy may be forced into meeting his demands instead of running the risk of losing him for free at the end of next season when his current agreement expires.
Some Spurs fans have hit out at Levy and have demanded that the club’s chairman simply gives Eriksen what he wants.
One supporter even claimed that Levy is “ruining” the club.
COMMENTARY:
It is pretty clear that Levy is not ruining Tottenham. He has overseen a major turn around by the North London club in the last decade, turning them from perennial underachievers into a club that can attract top players, is moving into a brand new stadium and can regularly compete with the Premier League’s best. Spurs are yet to win anything since Mauricio Pochettino took charge, but you get the feeling that trophies will come sooner rather than later. To do that Levy needs to ensure that players like Eriksen stays. The Denmark international has another year and a half left on his deal, so there is still plenty of time for Tottenham to get him tied down to a new deal. Some Spurs fans appear to be worried by the news but there are bound to be setbacks like this and Levy has to be trusted to turn things around.

Levy’s all about business. He won’t be forced to give Eriksen a new deal. That’s his flaw. Keeping the best players keeps a sustainable and good business! #COYS https://t.co/lwxhdOYhN6

Whilst I agree with you, its just incredible that its again happening around the time he won't sign a new deal. Same with Toby.

Generally we suffer with a lack of creative delivery when he doesn't play…. Stop trying to low ball our best players and give him what he wants OR sign someone better #COYS
