Tottenham are in hot pursuit of Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet claims that Liverpool, Chelsea, Bournemouth and Celtic are also keeping close tabs on the 21-year-old, however Boro are not interested in cashing in on him just yet.

It is understood that Tony Pulis is a huge fan of the 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) colossus and he is said to be “more than happy” to stay at the Riverside despite interest from the Premier League.

Good move for Tottenham?

Spurs could do with adding to their centre of defence but they need someone who can come in and be first team quality straight away. Can Fry do that? It’s very unlikely.

He may be a good back-up option but for the money that it would cost them, Spurs are better off looking elsewhere.

Middlesbrough’s stance on a potential transfer doesn’t help either because they are likely to play hardball over Fry, who is attracting a lot of attention thanks to his recent good performances.

Pulis can get the best out of players like him in the Championship, but that doesn’t mean Mauricio Pochettino will be able to in the top-flight.

Likely to happen?

Middlesbrough look as though they have no intention of letting Fry leave so the chances of him joining one of the interested clubs in January are pretty low.

Fry himself seems happy to stay on Teesside and that should be enough to say that this move looks unlikely from Tottenham’s point of view.
