Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure as doubts remain over the future of Victor Wanyama, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that Spurs could make a move for Doucoure, 25, in the January transfer window with their Premier League rivals valuing the former Stade Rennais enforcer at £35million.

It is understood that the Doucoure is not just a target for Tottenham though with Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal monitoring his progress at Vicarage Road.

Good move for Tottenham?

Doucoure would be a quality replacement for Wanyama and would probably be an upgrade on the Kenya international, who has been out of form ever since a spate of injuries he had last season.

The Watford midfielder has made 11 appearances across all competitions this season, supplying four assists in the process, which is not something you normally get from Wanyama, who doesn’t offer much in front of goal.

Doucoure is very similar to the ex-Southampton midfielder but gets forward a lot more and has been known to get the odd goal.

Mauricio Pochettino would be playing a blinder by signing the Hornets ace.

Likely to happen?

Tottenham have been linked with Doucoure for some time now but as they continue through the season, it looks more and more likely that their midfield could do with strengthening.

The Mirror report that Wanyama’s future is in doubt but Mousa Dembele is also in the last year of his contract.

If Spurs are going to spend big money, it will be on someone like Doucoure.
