Tottenham have approached Lyon with an enquiry over the availability of midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian reporter claimed via the Calcio Mercato website that Manchester City and Barcelona have also asked about the 21-year-old, who is valued by Lyon as being worth up to £44.2million.

It is understood that Juventus have also been keeping tabs on Ndombele, who has been compared to Chelsea star N’Golo Kante thanks to some fine performances in Lyon’s midfield over the last couple of seasons.

Good move for Tottenham?

Ndombele would be a fantastic signing for Spurs if Mauricio Pochettino is able to lure him to North London ahead of some of the best teams in the world.

The four-times France international would be the perfect like-for-like replacement for Mousa Dembele, who is out of contract next summer, and would easily slot straight into Pochettino’s starting line-up.

If there is a chance for Daniel Levy to splash the cash on signing Ndombele in January then he must not hesitate because he is the kind of player who has a lot of potential and could really help Spurs grow into annual trophy winners.

Likely to happen?

Spurs would have a lot of work to do if they tried to sign Ndombele.

Not only are Man City, Barcelona and Juventus likely to price them out of a move if a bidding war opens up, Levy’s hesitance in the transfer market could also stop them from picking up the midfielder first.

Ndombele’s form in France has been very good and it will be a miracle if he stays at Lyon past the end of this season.

Tottenham just need to ensure that it’s them who pick him up, but unfortunately, it does not look too promising at this stage.
