Tottenham are in the hunt to sign in-form Lille forward Nicolas Pepe, according to the Times.

The newspaper claims that Arsenal are also interested in signing the Ivory Coast international ahead of the January transfer window with Danny Welbeck likely to miss the rest of the season.

Pepe, 23, has been in the form of his career this season with Lille and it is understood that the Ligue 1 high-flyers value the wide-forward at £27million.

Good move for Tottenham?

Pepe is in seriously good form with Lille this season.

The former Angers attacker has scored eight goals and supplied seven assists in just 13 league appearances.

To do that in a major European league is seriously impressive, and he hasn’t just doing it against the lesser sides having scored against the likes of Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain.

£27million could be a decent fee for the 23-year-old, but Tottenham should be prioritising spending money on other areas of the squad before their attack, mainly the heart of midfield and the centre of defence.

Likely to happen?

Arsenal seem as though they are more interested that Tottenham at this stage but there is still plenty of time to go before the January transfer window opens.

However Spurs just don’t need a player like Pepe right now so that surely means that they are unlikely to sign him up in the winter, even though he is a good player and could be available for a fair fee.
