To say that Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has never had St James’ Park bouncing would be a harsh claim – but the Spaniard has rarely had the Toon Army on their feet this season.

Yes, the 25-year-old was the man who scored the goal in the Magpies’ first win of the season – a well taken header to sink Watford in front of the Tyneside faithful – but the only other moment of note in his 12 appearances this season was an assist in the 3-2 defeat to Manchester United.

The former Tenerife man has not been flavour of the season in Newcastle and you can be certain that there would be very few tears shed if he was sold any time soon, manager Rafael Benitez seemingly looking to improve on the attacking midfielder with the Chronicle claiming that a number number 10 is high on his January wishlist.

A new maestro – one who has the flair and creativity to get St James’ Park bouncing week in, week out – would be a welcome addition at the club but with funds tight and Perez part of the squad, making such a signing might be difficult.

Which is why any chance of offloading the current option and replacing him would be a huge boost to Benitez’s hopes.

El Gol Digital claim that Perez is being eyed up for a move back to Spain by Real Betis in a bid to boost their own offensive options, and with the 25-year-old offering little at Newcastle, the Magpies best snap off their hands if a decent offer arises.

With money in the bank and a gap in his squad, Benitez would be able to pursue the sort of signing he and the Toon Army want to see in January.
