Rangers manager Steven Gerrard might have conducted a complete overhaul of the squad at Ibrox this summer but it is hugely unlikely that the Light Blues’ business is anywhere near over as we head into the January window.

The Gers saw no less than 15 new faces join the playing staff with a mix of experienced and young talents looking to help take the Bears back to their former glories, having suffered a stuttering couple of seasons on their return to the top flight.

One area where many would say Gerrard was well equipped would be up front, with Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty offering solid striker options and the likes of Eros Grezda, Ryan Kent, Daniel Candeias and Glenn Middleton bring great depth on the flanks in the winger roles.

As such, signing a new wide man will not be on the manager’s priorities – but what he will be keen on is snapping up any bargains that might be available.

One talent who appears to have already been on Rangers’ radar this year was Kilmarnock attacker Jordan Jones, the 24-year-old Northern Irish international having been a regular for the Gers’ Scottish rivals.

The Daily Mail report that the three cap winger is being scouted by Championship sides Swansea and Aston Villa as he heads into the final six months of his contract, but that Rangers actually made a £350,000 bid for him this January.

It seems the Light Blues were keen then and not a lot will have changed – other than his price tag.

There is no way Killie can hold out for any sort of decent fee when they risk losing him for nothing in summer, and with him able to arrange a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January, they will be looking to get some cash in – even if that means selling him to Rangers.

Gerrard therefore could steal Jones – who has three assists to his name this season – from under everyone else’s nose and secure a bargain which helps bolster an attack looking to go to the next level.
