Versatile Rangers enforcer Ross McCrorie is attracting interest from sides in England’s Championship as his situation gives Steven Gerrard a headache, according to journalist Gary Ralston.

The Daily Record writer claims in his column for the newspaper that the 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) giant midfielder, who has also been utilised in defence on a regular basis, is not currently at the forefront of the manager’s plans, having managed to make only three Premiership appearances this season.

It is stated that Championship sides are plotting either a temporary or transfer raid for the 20-year-old but that the next month will decide his future at Ibrox as Gerrard ponders what to do, with thoughts of both a loan and a permanent sale said to be a possibility.

Opinion

The saving grace that is stopping McCrorie from being given the chop is that he is only 20-years-old. Were he much older, then there would be no question that his performances were not enough to suggest any sort of future at the club. However, he obviously has a lot of growing and development to do and that will be why Gerrard is not entirely sure on how to play this one. A loan exit might give him more regular playing time but is it going to help him progress in the way that the Gers boss wants him to? Perhaps not. Obviously he is not getting a lot of action at Ibrox this season and that will be frustrating him a little bit, although he will no doubt realise the importance of squad depth too. A permanent sale would be a real shock in January and will only come about if Gerrard makes a definitive decision that he has no future at the club. It seems much more likely he will head out on loan and it sounds as though he will have plenty of suitors.
