Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he is scheduled to hold immediate talks with chairman Dave King over the club’s future plans at Ibrox.

The Gers were one of the busiest sides over the summer when it came to recruitment, with Gerrard conducting a mass overhaul of his squad as he looks to take the Light Blues back to their former glories.

With January just around the corner, the manager has confirmed he is not looking at making the same major changes to his side in the winter transfer window, but that he would hold discussions with the Ibrox chief to determine the possibility of making some new signings in the new year.

He told the Daily Record: “I have a good relationship with the chairman and I’m looking forward to sitting down with him over the next few days.

“We have no major plans for January, we have done a lot in the summer but the recruitment process is to always grow so we would move if it was for the right player.”

Opinion

Fans at Ibrox will no doubt have been wanting to hear that King and Gerrard would be talking about continuing the vast amount of deals sealed by the club from the summer, but it seems as though they will be disappointed. It makes sense not to disrupt the dressing too much with new signings in the middle of the season, and it has proven so many times that winter signings can so often struggle to make the desired impact in the second half of the season. Will Gerrard and the Gers find the right sort of signing to make the difference, or will they be happy to settle for what they have currently got at their disposal. The big issue has to be up front, where Umar Sadiq has failed to make the grade so far and perhaps a new striker will be sought out to give the Light Blues some added firepower.
