Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has provided a positive update on captain Scott Brown’s injury which has kept him out for over a month.

The Scotland international last featured in the win over Hibernian on October 20, but Rodgers has suggested that he could return soon.

“It was just too much of a risk today but he’s been doing really well so we’ll see how he is over the next few days and hopefully he will be in and around the squad for [Thursday],” he told the Daily Record.

Having Brown back would be a huge boost for the Hoops ahead of what is shaping up to be a crunch Europa League tie against the Norwegian giants on Thursday.

OPINION

Having Brown back would be massive for Celtic. The Bhoys are still in with a very real chance of qualifying for the knockout stages heading into their final two games, and so the Rosenborg clash becomes hugely important for Rodgers’ side. Having the skipper back in the line up would go a long way to securing victory against the Norwegian outfit. Callum McGregor has excelled in a deeper midfield role in Brown’s absence, but there’s nothing quite like the tough-tackling Scot on a big European night. Brown is a vital component of this Celtic team and has been for many years now, and so Rodgers will always select him if he’s available. There was no point in playing him in a routine Scottish Premiership game against Hamilton on Saturday, not when there is such a big European match on the horizon. Rodgers made the right choice in resting him, and hopefully Brown returns to the team on Thursday night.
