Celtic know that they cannot compete with Premier League sides for too long when they come sniffing – the case of Stuart Armstrong the latest in an ever-growing line of talents who have left Parkhead to head south of the border.

As such they will always be questioning as to whether there is anyone currently in the squad who could bring English sides to their doorstep – and the form of James Forrest will no doubt have seen a few ears prick up for those looking for a talented winger with an eye for goal.

His performances for the Hoops, not to mention Scotland on the international stage, have been brilliant and there is the argument that he is outgrowing the Parkhead outfit as he hits the peak of his career.

It is obviously something that former Bhoy and outspoken pundit Chris Sutton seems to believe could happen if the opportunity comes along, turning to Twitter to laugh at suggestions from fans who are left questioning whether Forrest has the ability to succeed in England.

Sutton will not be the only one left believing the Celtic attacker has more to offer to world football, and the simple fact of the matter is that staying at Parkhead – with the Scottish Premiership lacking in quality – does not offer him the chance to further himself too much.

Having seen Armstrong struggle to force his way into the set up at Southampton, there is no guarantee he will find first team football should he move and that will be something the Hoops cling onto around transfer windows.

However, his performances have been excellent – and they should be seriously worried about another English side poaching another top talent.
