Celtic are hopeful of sorting out a new contract for midfielder Scott Brown in the coming days, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that the club allowed the Scotland international to delay signing an extension until the future of the Western Melbourne consortium has been resolved.

If the potential club are allowed a spot in Australia’s A-League then agent Lou Sticca has told the Daily Record that they will make a move for Brown.

Celtic are keen to receive an answer from Brown on his future who, at 33 years of age, may feel that the time is right for a glamorous move down under.

OPINION

You can understand Celtic’s eagerness to get the future of their captain resolved as quickly as possible. Obviously a move to Australian would be attractive to Brown from a financial perspective, and could be something that his family would be interested in, but the player needs to decide for himself whether now is finally the time for him to leave the Hoops behind. He has become synonymous with the club since he joined and now he must consider his future. Obviously Celtic want to sort their January transfer plans and they can’t do that until they know what the 33-year-old wants to do. These decisions take time, though, and Brown will be waiting until he knows that Western Melbourne will actually be granted a place in the A-League. Once that has been confirmed he can begin to properly contemplate a potential move to Australia and away from his beloved Celtic.
