Rangers must attempt to sign Birmingham City forward Lukas Jutkiewicz in the January transfer window if Steven Gerrard wants to ensure that his side does not drop off in the second half of the season.

Jutkiewicz, 29, has been in stunning form in the English Championship this term, scoring nine goals in 17 appearances across all competitions, with six of them coming in his last five outings.

It is fair to say that the powerhouse forward is in the form of his life at St Andrew’s and he has helped Garry Monk’s side transform themselves into relegation contenders to possible play-off hopefuls with his current goal-scoring run.

However Birmingham are not in the strongest of financial positions and clubs could attempt to take advantage of that in the January transfer window, especially as Monk’s men are in such good form.

Jutkiewicz is arguably the most impressive of the bunch in Birmingham and Rangers need to have a go at signing him in the winter.

Gerrard’s side has been scoring goals for fun this season but away from Alfredo Morelos, there are serious concerns about the other striker options of Kyle Lafferty and Umar Sadiq.

Since returning to Ibrox from Hearts, Lafferty has scored just four goals and has gone missing in some of the big games and the less said about loanee Sadiq the better as rumours continue to swirl about him potentially returning to Roma.

Jutkiewicz is not only in stunning form but he would also be able to add a lot of power and aerial ability to the front line, something that has been lacking this season.

Signing him would not only get Lafferty to pull his finger out and give the Gers a second-wind after the winter break, but it would also having Ibrox roaring because the Glasgow giants would be getting themselves a player who could be a threat to any team in Scotland on his day.
