Ronald de Boer has been drooling over Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor, claiming that the Scotland international has been in “brilliant form” since returning to Ibrox in the summer.

The 36-year-old agreed terms with the Gers before his contract with Hull expired at the end of last season and has since become Steven Gerrard’s number one goalkeeper, ousting Wes Foderingham from the role after several years.

Ibrox icon de Boer is loving the form of McGregor, and even waxed lyrical about his performance in the 4-3 defeat to Spartak Moscow last week despite conceding so many goals.

“I think Alex [McLeish] has good players, starting with the goalkeeper, Allan McGregor,” he told the Sunday Post.

“He has been in brilliant form all season for Rangers and, although he lost four goals, he made some fantastic saves the other night against Spartak Moscow.”

OPINION

McGregor has been in sublime form for Rangers since he returned to Ibrox after a six-year absence in the summer. The 36-year-old has made 23 appearances across all competitions, keeping nine clean sheets in the process, and it is fair to say that stat would be more impressive if it wasn’t for a few lapses in concentration from defenders in front of him. Gerrard had Rangers defending very well once he first took charge of the Glasgow giants, but lately it has all started to go a bit backwards. Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson were solid next to each other but Gerrard inexplicably axed Katic for Joe Worrall, who has been a bit hit and miss since. Katic was back in the line-up on Sunday and was at fault for Motherwell’s goal in the 7-1 win, so maybe once he has shaken off some of the rust, the Croat can start helping McGregor keeping more clean sheets.
