Manchester City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko could quit in January, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim the the 22-times Ukraine international “might be tempted to look elsewhere” in the winter after failing to nail down a regular starting spot at City.

Zinchenko has made just four appearances for the Premier League champions, two of which have come in the League Cup.

OPINION

Zinchenko is likely to be regretting his decision to snub a summer move to Wolves, who had agreed the terms of a £16million transfer only for the player to pull the plug before the window shut. Given that the Ukranian has subsequently started just four matches, only one of them in the Premier League, and has not even featured that often on the substitute’s bench, he would be better off at a club where there is less intense competition for places. A club like upwardly mobile Wolves would be perfect for Zinchenko, who sees himself as a central or left-sided midfielder rather than the left-back role he has been handed at City, usually in emergencies when Benjamin Mendy has been absent. Given that Mendy is now out until the new year after undergoing surgery, could that mean the champions put a halt to any exit for Zinchenko. Or will they regard Fabian Delph, so impressive for England on Sunday, as sufficient cover given his success at filling in at left-back in the past.
