Gary Lineker has hailed Wolves rising star Morgan Gibbs-White on Twitter ahead of his team’s Premier League clash against Arsenal on Saturday evening.

The Match of the Day host acclaimed the 18-year-old as a “good lad” on his personal social media account in response to the teenager telling BBC Sport how he raced home to watch himself on the football programme with his father after his impressive cameo against Tottenham last weekend.

Morgan-White made his fifth Premier League appearance in the 3-2 defeat at Molineux, but it was his longest and most impressive run-out in the competition.

OPINION

There have been plenty of calls this week from Wolves fans and observers of the club for Morgan-White to be handed his first Premier League start in Sunday’s clash against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. That is unlikely, despite how well the rookie performed after coming off the bench with 28 minutes remaining against Tottenham. Morgan-White replaced Joao Moutinho in central midfield and delivered an accomplished display as Wolves mounted a late comeback. But it would rank as a major surprise if Morgan-White was given the nod over Moutinho, who was not at his best last weekend but has combined with fellow Portugese Ruben Neves to form such an effective midfield guard this season. At this stage in his career, Morgan-White is better off getting used to the English top flight from the substitute’s bench, which allows him to gradually get acclimatised. His time will come, for use. The England Under-19 international is a young player of enormous potential.
