West Ham scouts jetted out to watch Nantes striker Emiliano Sala in a 1-1 draw against Angers on Saturday, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that the Hammers are one of five Premier League sides on the tail of the prolific Argentine, who has scored 12 goals in 14 games so far this term.

The Mail claim that Nantes value Sala around £25million and will look to sell him on in January, with the club aware they will not be able to meet his demands for a new contract.

It is said that the Ligue 1 side have already received an opening offer for the 28-year-old.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes.

Sala is a prolific striker with one of the best records in Europe this season, and the fact he is doing it for a relatively small side makes that all the more impressive.

His 6ft 3in frame would translate well to the Premier League, and Sala looks like he could be a really solid signing for an English side in the new year.

That being said, £25million is quite a lot of money considering West Ham’s summer spending, and the club may be better off looking at cheaper options first.

Likely to happen?

Money is likely to be the main obstacle to this move going through, with the Hammers likely to want to keep costs low in the January window.

Spending £25million on a player who is likely to play back-up to Marko Arnautovic may not be justifiable for Manuel Pellegrini, and he may have to look elsewhere.
