West Ham United transfer target Samir Nasri is targeting a £5million-per-year contract at the London Stadium, according to the Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Frenchman is looking for a deal worth £96,000-per-week, and is currently in talks with the East London club.

The 31-year-old is a proven Premier League performer but is returning from an 18 month drugs ban and Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini wants to improve his fire power moving forward.

Everton manager Marco Silva was also interested in the former Manchester City man, but decided against a move because Nasri didn’t fit the club’s age profile.

Good move for West Ham?

This is a strange one. Nasri has tremendous talent, that’s always been clear, but he is in the twilight of his career now and hasn’t played competitive football for a long, long time. Since leaving City he has failed to really impress either at Sevilla or Antalyaspor and that’s all we can really judge him on at this moment in time. Pellegrini, having worked with the Frenchman before, may be able to rejuvenate him in East London but it’s an awful risk considering the money Nasri apparently wants. The Hammers are struggling with injuries so he could be useful in a numbers sense, but it just doesn’t seem like West Ham would be signing the same Nasri that we saw in his first stint in England.

Likely to happen?

Well, West Ham can certainly afford £100,000-per-week but do they really want to hand that over to the midfielder? That’s the key question here. It’s entirely in the club’s hands now and there does appear to be mutual interest from the two parties, so why not?
