West Hm fans have been getting increasingly frustrated at the Declan Rice contract situation, and with good reason.

The Sun recent reported that Premier League giants Man United and Tottenham have been alerted to the youngster’s situation.

That seems to be that contract negotiations have ground to a halt, with no new talks held in the last month.

However, talking on the latest episode of the West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee, a source with close links to the West Ham board, said that he expected a new offer to be made to Rice in January.

He said that a lot of fans had got the wrong end of the stick when Rice recently tweeted (since deleted) a heart emoji with the Irons hammer badge, thinking that this indicated he was about to sign a new contract.

“There’s been no new offer for Rice for a month now. He tweeted the heart and irons badge recently, but you just interpreted that the way you wanted.

“There has been no contact and this is a worry but I think he will be offered a new deal in January.”

West Ham fans will be desperate for this to come to fruition and it would be one of the most bizarre decisions if West Ham let one of their best young players go because they won’t pay him what he’s worth.

Rice is looking for parity with the squad and is currently on a fraction of most of the first-team players – reported to be £3,000-a-week. Javier Hernandez, their highest-paid player is currently on about £140k-a-week.

Rice isn’t looking for anything near that and hopefully the interest from Man United and Tottenham will prove to West Ham that they’ve got one of the best youngsters in the Premier League and that they need to pay him what he wants.
