Tottenham rising star Oliver Skipp is in line to be named in the matchday squad for tonight’s Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven, according to Football London.

The Reach site claim in their live blog of the Under-19s clash against the Dutch side (Tuesday, 12.22pm) the central midfielder, 18, is set to get a taste of first-team action after being omitted from the age-group clash.

Skipp made his Tottenham debut in last week’s 3-1 League Cup win over West Ham after climbing up the pecking order following an injury crisis at the club.

OPINION

It is a measure of how highly Spurs rate Skipp that he is set to be in the matchday squad for the second time in a Champions League match this season. Certainly, the teenage midfielder has benefitted from injuries that have robbed the club of key men, and that will be the case again tonight as Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele are among those already ruled out. Skipp got a six-minute run-out for the senior side in their triumph against West Ham six days ago and Mauricio Pochettino appears to have the faith the youngster can cope with the even higher standard of Europe’s premier competition. Certainly, there is plenty of excitement about the potential of Skipp, who many claim is the most exciting academy prospect at the club since Harry Winks. Like the England international, Skipp is a central midfielder and he has earned rave reviews over the last year for his composed and classy displays in the middle of the pitch for Spurs youth teams. The signs are that he has already outgrown that standard, and he’ll certainly have the club’s entire fanbase behind him if he features against the Dutch champions.
