Two Sampdoria officials and an agent representing defender Joachim Andersen flew to London on Thursday to meet with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian publication reports that negotiations were conducted in London in the last 24 hours between the two clubs and Andersen’s people regarding a potential move to the Premier League.

Ian Broomfield, a highly regarded Spurs scout, is said to have been in attendance at Sampdoria’s clash with Torino recently as the club jetted out on a mission to assess the player ahead of a potential transfer.

Calcio Mercato’s report claims that Italian giants Inter Milan are also interested in the 22-year-old, who has played every minute of Serie A action for Marco Giampaolo’s side this season.

Good move for Tottenham?

In a word, yes. Admittedly Andersen remains relatively unproven at the top level, but he has been superb for Sampdoria this season and is showing signs of being a top class centre half. At 22 years of age he is still incredibly young and would therefore be a long term investment for Mauricio Pochettino, as well. With Toby Alderweireld’s future uncertain it’s no surprise to see Tottenham linked with centre backs, and Andersen is someone whose name has cropped up a lot recently. A potential partnership of Davinson Sanchez and Andersen could be in situ at the new White Hart Lane for years to come so, yes, why not pull the trigger on this move?

Likely to happen?

Arsenal’s interest complicates things for Tottenham. The Gunners aren’t what they used to be but they remain an attractive club historically and financially, so it’s eminently possible that Unai Emery’s side could beat Spurs to Andersen. This one is a toss up.
