Tottenham could be laying the foundations for an astonishing January swoop that would make jaws drop.
Following a fallow summer window in which the club did not sign a single player, the Spurs are preparing to go in hot pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic.
That is according to the Harry Hotspur blog, a reliable source of Tottenham transfer news.
It is said that Pulisic is Mauricio Pochettino’s “big” January target. But, far from the manager demanding Spurs try to sign the USA international, Harry Hotspur report the player’s name has also been mooted by Daniel Levy, who is in full agreement.
Pochettino believes Pulisic would be a top-quality addition to the team and a player capable of great things in the years ago.
Chairman Levy is convinced the 20-year-old forward would be “commercially agreeable investment” who would be a marketing dream and fill the coffers during his time at the club.
It would be a stunning move if Tottenham pulled it off.
Pulisic has been linked with the Premier League elite ever since breaking into the Dortmund side as a lavishly gifted 17-year-old.
Now aged 20, he has been a regular for the first team, racking up 109 appearances which he has decorated with 15 goals and 24 assists.
For a player who only stopped being a teenager in September, those are eyecatching numbers, as are the nine goals in 22 internationals for USA.
But Pulisic is more than just a decent creator and goalscorer. He is a matchwinner with the potential to become one of the outstanding players in the world.
No wonder Pochettino wants him. It would be a stunning transfer if Spurs pulled it off in January.
