European champions Real Madrid are considering making a £71million move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, according to Diario Gol.

The Spanish outlet claims that the Denmark international is on the radar of Santiago Solari’s side, with the Times reporting that Eriksen is in the midst of a contract stand-off with Spurs.

The 26-year-old is one of Tottenham’s most important players and manager Mauricio Pochettino would be loath to lose him.

Diario Gol’s report also credits Madrid with an interest in numerous other players, including Manchester United starlet Marcus Rashford.

Good move for Tottenham?

In a word, no. It would be disastrous for Spurs to lose arguably their best player outside of Harry Kane. The Dane is one of the most influential figures at the club and is the team’s main source of creativity. It would be extremely difficult for Pochettino to replace him, and the 26-year-old’s departure would be felt extremely keenly in North London. There aren’t many midfielders better than Eriksen in world football and so for Tottenham to potentially lose him would be devastating. Madrid are always lucrative for players but Eriksen must realise that he would be far from a regular starter at the Bernabeu. Despite that, alarm bells will be sounding at Tottenham and they must do whatever it takes to keep Eriksen at the club.

Likely to happen?

There’s no reason why not as long as Madrid’s interest is genuine. When the European champions come calling players rarely say no, and Eriksen would likely be no different. He is already reportedly unsettled at the club, so this one could be a possibility.
