Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame is reportedly set to earn a new contract at some point this season, and many fans have taken to Twitter to slam the club for their decision.
As reported by the Chronicle, Diame has an agreement in place which triggers a new deal once he reaches a certain amount of appearances this season, which he is on course to do having played in every Premier League game so far.
Newcastle fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter, with many expressing their disappointment at seeing the club ready to hand the 31-year-old a new deal.

COMMENTARY
It is interesting to see the reaction of these particular Newcastle fans, who are quite clearly not happy to see Diame offered an extension. The Senegal international has been at the club for two-and-a-half seasons now and has been a big part of their starting team ever since he joined in the summer of 2016. The 31-year-old may not be the most flashy player, but he brings a stability and strength to the midfield which no other player in the squad can offer. Admittedly, his form this season has left a lot to be desired, but his work-rate is always high and he usually contributes on a regular basis in defence. The issue that most of these supporters obviously have is that they believe the club should be aiming higher, and they are right in saying so. If Newcastle want to progress they need to move past Diame in midfield, but he is a good squad player to have around nonetheless, and he deserves this new deal.
