Newcastle United have scouted Sassuolo midfielder Stefano Sensi and have identified him as a potential January target, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper reports on its website that the Magpies could be faced with the possibility of Isaac Hayden forcing through a departure in the January transfer window, which means that a central midfielder like Sensi could be on their radar.

The 5ft 6in [Transfermarkt] dazzler also has admirers in the shapes of Serie A duo AC Milan and Inter Milan, with Juventus also holding an interest in the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £22.1 million.

Good move for Newcastle?

Yes definitely, especially if he has caught the eye of a trio of Italian clubs. Ex-Premier League boss Roberto Mancini – who is manager of the Italy national team – raved about the young ace after the international break, so he is definitely not short of admirers. He is a very technical player, so he would be an excellent addition to what Benitez already has in his midfield, if he manages to sign him.

Likely to happen?

Based on the price tag that has been slapped on his head, Newcastle are in no position to sign him as it remains to be seen what the club’s transfer budget actually is – but when was the last time United signed someone for this amount of money? They are likely to be priced out of a move if his fee is not lowered, which is a shame, as he is a fantastic player – but who knows.
