Newcastle’s number one target for the January transfer window is Atlanta United’s attacking midfield sensation Miguel Almiron, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun’s transfer expert was asked by a Newcastle fan if there was anything in the Almiron reports.
He replied with an emphatic “Want him. First choice” although he did add that price would be an issue “as always”.
Nixon made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Sunday.

Almiron would be a wonder signing. He’s been linked with a lot of Premier League clubs, including West Ham and Tottenham, and the prolific midfielder could well become one of the hottest targets in January. He was at it again over the weekend when he scored a world-class free-kick to help his side clinch victory in the MLS play-off game with New York City. In the league Almiron has scored 12 and added an incredible 13 assists in just 32 games, and that’s got him noticed by the PL big-hitters. He’s under contract until 2020 but there’s a feeling that he could make a move to Europe soon and possibly in January. The one sticking point, as always with Newcastle, is money. He’ll go for over £20million and that’s a lot for Mike Ashley to spend on his football team. Is he worth it?
