Moshiri reveals Everton January plans

|

Farhad Moshiri has revealed on talkSPORT that Everton are unlikely to buy any new players in the January transfer window.

Speaking on the Jim White Show on Friday morning, the Goodison Park owner explained there is unlikely to be a repeat of the activity in the previous winter window 10 months ago when the club signed Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun for £20million-plus fees.

Moshiri, who has sanctioned massive spending since buying a stake in the club in 2016, said Everton intend to focus on developing the players already at the club and giving young players a chance.

“We bought a lot of players. I think we will do well to bed in the players we have got. We have a £30 million player who hasn’t played yet,” Moshiri said on talkSPORT (9 November, 11.25am).

OPINION

Moshiri’s January window revelation is unlikely to go down well with a significant section of the Everton fan base, who have got used to the club being major spenders in recent years as they look to join the Premier League elite. The Merseysiders spent big in both January, with Walcott and Tosun the headline arrivals, and again in the summer, when huge sums were spent on Richarlison, Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne, while Bernard was handed a lucrative contract after arriving on a free, and Andre Gomes and Kurt Zouma arrived on loan. Clearly, Moshiri and the Everton hierarchy believe enough money has been spent on transforming the squad, and now it is the job of manager Marco Silva to develop those at his disposal. One of those is Mina, who is the £30million player Moshiri is referring to who has yet to get a game. The giant Colombian will surely be a fixture in the defence when he is firing on all cylinders.
