OPINION
£53million signing Fred has only been used by Jose Mourinho sporadically this season and fans think they’ve worked out why.
He’s only started six games in the Premier League and this was only his second start in the Champions League – his first was the reverse fixture against Young Boys.
And United fans think it’s because he passes forward, is “mobile, creative” and “everything that goes against Mourinho’s philosophy.”
One United fan said he needed to watch himself and that if he passed forwards any more he’d get subbed off by the manager.
They’re all good jokes but they underpin a serious problem in the United side.
Under Mourinho you have to say they’re playing awful, negative football. And when you think what United have given to football over the last 25-30 years, it’s tough to take. It took a goal from Fellaini in injury time to give them a win tonight against Young Boys. And this comes after a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford last week.
Fred looked “amazing” tonight according to a fair few United fans. The question is, why can’t Mourinho see it?
Here are the best reactions from frustrated United fans after watching Fred tonight:

I can understand why Jose limits Fred's game time.. the Braziian is positive, proactive and looks to make things happen.. #mufc

How Fred doesn't make our starting XI at all in the league is beyond me, has started this game off well so far #MUFC
