Sky Sports pundit Tony Cascarino has heaped incredible praise on Man City player Raheem Sterling, saying that he’s as good as Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah was last season.

Salah signed for Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2017 before scoring 32 goals in 36 Premier League games for his new club as he blew the English top-flight away.

Talking on talkSPORT, Cascarino said, “Sterling is playing an unbelievable level of football! He is playing like Salah did last year!”

Sterling has scored six goals in nine league games so far this season, and registered five assists.

OPINION
As good as Salah? Sterling is getting there but we don’t think anyone’s at the level of Salah 17/18. Cascarino was talking before the Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad last night and his view on Sterling wouldn’t have changed after the City player scored another wonder goal early in the second-half. Unfortunately, that’s not what he’s going to be remembered for in a crazy game that City ended up winning 6-0. Instead, all the headlines have been about the incident in which he tripped himself up on the pitch when he was clean through on goal. It was pretty blatant but missed by all the officials and the referee awarded a penalty, much to the bemusement of pretty much everyone in the stadium. Sterling apologised for the incident after the game, saying he didn’t ask for a penalty. However, he also didn’t own up to the referee, instead saying that he kept his head down after the spot-kick was awarded.Good for him. It’s not up to players to own up to things like this and it’s yet more evidence that the game needs VAR.
