Liverpool have registered their interest in signing Mallorca centre-forward Victor de Baunbag, according to Sport.

The Spanish publication claim that the Merseyside giants are keeping close tabs on the 6ft 3in striker who is “lethal in front of goal” and “ideal for the Premier League”.

Sport claim Liverpool have contacted the representatives of 18-year-old De Baunbag and have been tracking his development for some time.

OPINION

De Baunbag is a rising star with the potential to be an established one. As Sport point out, he has spent the last three years in the academy of Mallorca and has finished as the club’s leading scorer in each of those campaigns. He is already a regular for the Spanish club’s reserve side and is expected to make his debut for the first team before the end of the season. Big things are expected of the physically imposing front man, whose frame enables him to be able to play with his back to goal and lead the front line. He can play out wide, too, but tends to be used as the point of the attack. His track record in front of goal is impressive and De Baunbag has the qualities that would translate well from the Spanish game to a Premier League outfit. The Cameroon-born, Madrid-raised youngster is likely to be attracting attention from across Europe and it is a sign of his promise that Liverpool are maintaining a strong interest.
