Jim White has rubbished reports that Rangers are set to sign Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke on loan in January, claiming a source has told him there is no chance of such a deal going through.

Various outlets including the Scottish Sun and talkSPORT have reported that the 21-year-old was in line for a temporary switch to Ibrox to play under Steven Gerrard in January.

Renowned broadcaster White, who is a Rangers fan, has now claimed on his personal Twitter account that he has been informed a deal is not in the pipeline, with a Liverpool source saying: “Nothing even close.”

OPINION

This will be a blow for Rangers fans who have been hoping that rumours of a deal for Solanke are true. The struggles of Umar Sadiq this season have illustrated the need for another striker at Ibrox, and the 21-year-old Liverpool ace will have looked a good option to many. Solanke is yet to turn out for the Liverpool first-team this season, but his form for England Under-21s over this international break illustrates what he could bring to Glasgow. Solanke scored four goals in two games for the Three Lions to fire himself back into form and remind Jurgen Klopp of his talents, while also putting himself in the shop window for a January move. From Liverpool’s perspective this is surely a move which makes sense, with Solanke simply stagnating in the reserves this season. White’s assertion that there is no chance of such a move happening seems to refute that, especially considering it came from an Anfield source.
