OPINION
What a few months it has been for Wijnaldum. Expected by many fans to be pushed to the fringes at Liverpool following the big-money signings of Fabinho and Naby Keita, he has instead been a virtual ever-present, starting 15 of the club’s 16 Premier League and Champions League fixtures as the club lay down a title challenge in the most competitive-ever start to a top-tier season. Wijnaldum has also been a key man for Holland as they snatched top spot ahead of World Cup winners France and Germany in a fearsome Nations League group to join Portugal, England and Switzerland in next summer’s finals tournament. Wijnaldum played for an hour on Monday night as Holland drew 2-2 in Germany following a dramatic late fightback in which his side scored twice in the last five minutes, capped by a close-range volley from Anfield teammate Virgil van Dijk in the dying seconds. There was plenty of social media comment from Liverpool, Holland and other fans about Wijnaldum’s contribution following a fallow few years for the Dutch national team. Many would now like him to repeat his national team scoring in a club jersey.
Here are the best reactions from Liverpool and international fans:
Need Fabinho to cement a first team spot ASAP. Needs to be playing every single game. That way it’ll free up Wijnaldum to play a more advanced role. He smashes it for Holland in the Number 10 role. #LFC

Van Dijk, Gini, Salah, Trent and Shaqiri all putting in massive performances for their nations this break.
Keita also played 90 minutes after an injury. #LFC
