Gary Lineker has hailed Arsenal rising star Reiss Nelson on Twitter for “performing so brilliantly in Germany”.

The Match of the Day host and former England star drooled over Nelson and fellow England sensation Jadon Sancho for taking the Bundesliga by storm this season.

Lineker claimed on his personal Twitter account in response to a BBC Sport feature on the pair it is “great to see” two young Englishmen delivering the goods in Germany and that it is a “fabulous place for them to learn”.

OPINION

Little wonder Lineker has been blown away by Nelson. Like Sancho, who has been in sensational form for the Borussia Dortmund side that sits on top of the Bundesliga and was instrumental in Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 win over Bayern Munich, Nelson has had a blistering start to life in Germany. Following a spell on the sidelines at the start of his season-long loan from Arsenal, Nelson has scored six goals in seven league matches and catapulted little-fancied Hoffenheim to fifth in the Bundesliga. Like Sancho, the Gunners teenager is an attacking midfielder who plays in one of the three positions behind the main centre-forward. He is blisteringly quick, technically gifted and has a real eye for goal. Defences in Germany’s top tier are finding him a real handful. The good news for Arsenal is the youngster, who joined the club at the age of eight, signed a long-term contract before being loaned out and is fully intending to return to Emirates Stadium.
