Great things were hoped for when striker Cenk Tosun arrived at Goodison Park in January, with an impressive record for both club and country making it seem like he would be the man to fire the club to success.

His first half season in England was not a bad one either, continuing on from his 14 goals for Besiktas, including four in the Champions League, to net five in 14 appearances for the Toffees.

With new manager Marco Silva bringing in the likes of Richarlison and Bernard to bolster their attack over the summer, it seemed as though Tosun would be fed with numerous glorious opportunities to put the opposition to the sword.

However, despite starting the first five Premier League games he scored nothing, and he has suffered a fall from grace by being limited to substitute appearances – garnering two goals – since, although the last two games he has been unused by Silva.

With January quickly approaching, Liverpool Echo journalist Adam Jones was probed about the Turkish international’s future at the club in a question and answer session, and he insisted that the manager’s approach would be to give Tosun the chance of a comeback in order for him to prove himself.

However, with just over six weeks until the January window opens, Tosun must realise he needs to grab whatever hope their is of reinstating himself in the squad as a reliable player with both hands – or face either a new striker signing coming in to add further competition, or even face the exit door at Goodison.

He has been by no means a disastrous signing since January, but these last couple of months have been bitterly disappointing and with no space for passengers at the Toffees, he needs to up his game or face a bleak future.
