A section of Everton fans have drooled over the display of midfielder Andre Gomes in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Toffees travelled to Stamford Bridge hoping to build upon their excellent 3-1 win over Brighton last weekend, but it was the Blues who largely dominated in the first half, bar an opportunity from Bernard.
Chelsea took charge of the second half as well, with a goal from Alvaro Morata ruled offside – but neither side was able to break the stalemate.
Many supporters were over the moon at the performance of the summer signing, with some comments including “reminds me of a Rolls Royce” and “is a baller”.
COMMENTARY
Ever since Andre Gomes made his debut against Crystal Palace a few weeks ago, he has thoroughly impressed many Everton fans week after week – including these ones. That is not surprising though, because the midfielder has been absolutely excellent recently, he has bossed the middle of the park like he has been at the club for years. One fan even said he is the player that they needed ever since Mikel Arteta left – and they are right. Arteta was incredible for Everton, and many would have thought he was irreplacable until Gomes arrived at Goodison Park. There is nothing that he can do wrong at the moment. and Everton supporters will no doubt be gutted that he is only on loan for the season. Who knows – maybe he will sign permanently if he continues with these sorts of performances.

Played really well there. Held our own. Andre Gomes is a big part of us not panicking in possession anymore. Back four all had great games.

Gomes is so composed on the ball. Loved his snide challenge on hazard when he realised he had broke inbetween our lines.
