Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has labelled Andre Gomes as being ‘something special’ after his loan move from Barcelona this summer.

The Portugal international has made a big impact in recent weeks, forming an impressive central midfield duo with Gueye in the middle of the park.

And the Senegal international clearly admires his new team mate: “Andre Gomes brings something special, with his technique and the way he keeps the ball,” he told the club’s official website.

“Of course, we knew he was a good player, he came from Barcelona – and you know the types of players who go to Barcelona. He is helping us a lot so, hopefully, he will continue his form and carry on helping the team.”

OPINION

Gueye is pretty spot on, here. Gomes has looked superb in his handful of appearances for Everton so far this campaign, forming a top class midfield duo with Gueye. The two compliment each other perfectly and Marco Silva’s side are benefitting from their understanding. Gomes’ technical ability is up there with any central midfielder in the Premier League and the Toffees are extremely lucky to have him – even if it does just turn out to be a temporary deal. His Barcelona pedigree has shone through this term and he’s only going to get better as he gets more used to English football in the coming months. He is masterful in possession, rarely giving the ball away and helping his team dictate the pace of games. That’s so important in the relentless environment that is the Premier League, and Everton fans will be hoping that the club are able to sign him on a permanent basis next summer.
