Everton midfielder Andre Gomes knows that his future at Goodison Park is short lived and that he is expecting to head back to Barcelona for next season at the end of his loan spell, according to Sport.

The Spanish publication claim on their website that the Portuguese international knows where his professional future lies and that with no clause in his loan deal for the Toffees to purchase the central maestro from the Spanish giants, he is expecting to head back to the Camp Nou in summer.

It is stated that the €100million (£87.7million) release clause in his contract means that Everton are unlikely to be able to purchase him outright at the end of his loan deal.

Opinion

Everton fans would no doubt love to see Gomes stay beyond this summer but it seems as though the Portuguese star’s mind is already made up – even if that is because of factors outside his control. He might well be hoping that impressing in the Premier League will give the Barcelona bosses no choice but to give him a chance in the first team next season, but if that is the case then he needs to be starting on a regular basis and proving his worth to the Toffees. He has made a positive impact in the two games he has featured in so far but of course there needs to be much more for him to get anywhere near the level expected at Barca. Would Everton want to keep him past the end of his loan spell? He has not done a lot as yet and so the jury is still out, but with the mega-money price tag being bandied about, it looks seriously unlikely anything will happen unless the Spaniards drop it significantly.
